Networking

Identify as many contacts as possible, start with Career Contacts.

Research Professional Association links for local chapters and contacts and attend meetings.

Develop a brief statement of your background and career interests.

Create a business card with your name, field of interest, address, phone, email.

Make at least one or two new contacts weekly, start with faculty.

Ask each contact for referrals.

Send thank-you notes.
Cold Calling

Identify companies you are interested in working for that do not have posted positions.

Tailor your resume and cover letter to individual companies.

Follow up your mailing with phone calls and visits.
Interviewing
-
Check the interviewing information on the CDC website.

Review the list of interview questions and prepare your answers.

Go to an interviewing workshop.

Schedule a practice interview.

After each interview, think about the questions and your answers. Consider
how you might answer them more effectively next time.

Write a "thank you" letter or email after each interview.
Managing the search
