About your ResNet connection
ResNet is a 10/100Base-T Ethernet connection. This means that you connect to
the Internet through a device, located in your computer, which is specified
for this network media type. You do not use your modem!
Fortunately, if you have purchased your Macintosh computer in recent years
(PowerMac or later), you most likely have the 10/100Base-T hardware included
with your computer. This means that there are only a few software checks and
registration for you to complete! This section describes these steps so please
read carefully.
How to identify the Ethernet port
Look on the back of your Mac for this symbol .
It will mark the Ethernet port (Figure 1 illustrates the back of a
G3 tower). This is an RJ-45 jack and has 8 connectors. An iMac will
have this port located behind the panel on the right side of the computer,
next to the keyboard and USB ports.

Purchase a Twisted Pair Network Cable
As the owner of a Macintosh with a built-in Ethernet interface, the only purchase
you need to make is that of a category 5 twisted pair network cable, available
from most computer stores. It should have RJ-45 connectors on each end (Figure
2). As for recommended cable length, it depends on the proximity of your
computer from the ResNet port in your room. A 25-foot cable will generously
accommodate all on-campus rooms. The excess can always be coiled away.
