ResNet - Frequently Asked Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What is ResNet?
A: High-speed Internet access that is accessible through
individual access ports which are located in each bedroom.
Q: What computer equipment do I need to connect to the ResNet system?
A: You MUST have a 10/100 Ethernet port installed, along
with a RJ-45 cable, and a NetID with password.
Q: I accidentally shut the logout screen, how do I get back?
A: By typing blueph in the address bar and pressing ENTER,
it should reappear. If that does not work, completely shut off your
system for 5 to 6 minutes for the system to automatically shut you
down.
Q: Do I need Anti-virus software or a firewall?
A: Yes, you are required to have both a working Anti-virus
program well as a firewall installed on your computer. Please refer
to page 2 for more information.
Q: Why is my Internet connection running slow?
A: Slow Internet connections can be caused by too many users
trying to login to the system at the same time. If this occurs, try
using the Internet later when there is less traffic on the ResNet.
The problem can also be a University-wide problem not just
the Residential system. If this occurs, please be patient, as the problem
will be corrected as soon as possible.
Q: While I am on the Internet I keep getting pop-up screens, what should
I do?
A: These pop-ups screens can be mostly attributed to the
unknowing installation of Adware or Spyware. AdWare/SpyWare install components
on your computer that will send marketing information whenever you are
online. A typical way to get rid of unwanted AdWare/SpyWare is to download
and install Adware removal software. RECOMMENDATION: Download SpyBot
S&D - it's free and it will detect and remove spyware from your computer.
