Why
should I live in the residence halls instead of off-campus?

How
do I apply for on-campus housing?
Fall
Quarter Housing Applications are accepted beginning December 1st.
- Complete
the Housing Application and mail it to the Housing office with a $30
check or money order made payable to CSUEB. Follow
this link to access and download the Housing Application.
- After we have
received your application, along with the $30 fee, and verified your
acceptance to the University, a housing packet will be made available
for you to access via the Internet. The packet will contain payment
information, the CSUEB Student Housing License Agreement, and Immunization,
Emergency and Insurance Information request forms. You must download,
complete and return all licensing documents, along with the appropriate
payment, to complete the space reservation process.
- You
are encouraged to complete and return your housing application and
associated forms as early as possible. Upon receipt of all licensing
materials, a letter confirming your space reservation will be mailed
to you.

How
much does it cost to live in the residence halls?
Rental
rates for the contract period are provided in the license packet.

Schedule.
First
time freshman rates include mandatory meal plan costs.
In
addition, residents living in the Double Bedroom Apartments will need
to pay for gas and electricity.
All
residents are provided the option of contracting for telephone and cable
TV service.

Can
I stay for only one quarter?
Students starting in the Fall Quarter
sign a License Agreement that is binding for the full academic
year (three quarters, September through June). Students starting
in the Winter Quarter sign a two-quarter License Agreement, and
Spring and Summer quarter residents sign separate one-quarter
License Agreements. A student with a qualifying reason may be
released from the Housing License, with 30 days notice at the
end of a quarter. |
Do
you have single occupancy rooms?
Yes. Single occupancy bedrooms are available
in the upper division apartments.
All
other rooms are assigned double occupancy.
When
do I need to pay?
Beginning in mid-May, license materials will
be mailed to those students who have submitted an application for the
Fall Quarter. A space reservation deposit must be returned with the
licensing materials to complete the space reservation process.
Is
there a meal plan available?
Yes. Meal plans are provided through the
University Union Food Service Provider. Meal plans are included in the
housing fees for First Time Freshmen. Meal plan options are available
to all other residents.
How
do you assign spaces and match roommates?
Your priority for a specific housing assignment
is established based on the date the licensing materials are received
in our office.
For
those not requesting a specific roommate, matches are made based on
age, class level and major.
Can
I request a specific person to be my roommate?
Yes. On the Housing application, there is a space to indicate "Roommate
Preference." Both students must request each other on the application
for the roommate request to be considered.
How
do we get the housing assignment?
You will be given your room assignment at check-in.
Are
the student apartments open during the quarter break?
The
apartments and suites are open during the
winter and spring breaks. Those with summer contracts may also stay
for the summer break period.
What
do I need to bring if I live in the student apartments?
Suggested items to bring are a clock radio, desk lamp, bedding (pillow,
pillowcases, sheets for extra long twin bed), blankets, bedspread, towels,
clothes, laundry soap, toiletries, dishes, cooking utensils, a trunk
or footlocker with a lock, broom and mop, computer, TV, etc.
What
type of social activities and events occurs in the residence halls?
Our programmatic philosophy embraces the
ideal that learning is a continuous process, therefore we provide a
living-learning environment. Our staff assists students in this endeavor
by providing opportunities to expand their horizons through academic,
social, cultural, recreational and service oriented programs. These
programs support the educational goals of residents here in Pioneer
heights. In addition, these programs are designed to give students tools
to successfully become effective citizens both today and and
in the future. Some examples of these programs include:

Management Workshops designed to help students learn to
find balance between the classroom, employment and extracurricular
activities.
- Study
Skills Workshops designed to help our students increase
their knowledge on how to study for college courses and how
much time should be designated for each subject.
- Film
Festivals give students exposure to different cultures and
lifestyles.

Is
there a telephone line in my room?
Each resident is provided a telephone lines.
Residents must contact a service provider of their choice to establish
phone service.
Can
I bring a TV and stereo?
Yes, students can bring both. Students who
wish to have cable TV will need to contact the local cable company to
establish an account and have the service connected. Often students
in the apartment will share the cost of the cable TV service. Please
refer to the On-Campus Community Living Guide
for further information.
Do
I need a car when I live on campus? Is public transportation convenient?
No, students do not need a car. A variety
of convenient and affordable transportation options are available to
residents. For those students bringing a car to campus, parking permits
will cost $36 per quarter and may be purchased at the University Cashier
in Warren Hall.
What
recreation facilities are available?
Two community recreation rooms are available,
each with a big screen TV, Billiard, Foosball and Ping-Pong tables.
A fitness center is also available. Sand volleyball courts and a basketball
court along with a barbecue and picnic area are located on the nicely
landscaped grounds.
